Span by span bridge construction method

The construction of bridges using successive cantilevers involves gradually and methodically erecting structures over obstacles such as bodies of water or challenging terrain. Prefabricated concrete segments are used to build the bridge from both ends towards the center. This process demands meticulous planning and the utilization of advanced technology to ensure stability and structural safety at every stage.

The model is a steel beam with a span of 10m and a height of 1m. The beam is modeled with a perfect bilinear plastic material. The material is elastic up to 210MPa, and then the curve is perfectly plastic. At a distance of 0.8m at each end, a linear material has been used to avoid plasticization due to punctual supports.

The model yields the following results:

- The horizontal stress in the case obtained with the elastic model exactly coincides with the theoretical hand calculation.

- In the elastic-plastic model, in areas where the steel has yielded, a zero horizontal stress is obtained.

- In the elastic-plastic model, in areas where the material has not yielded at any point in the section, the horizontal stress coincides with the theoretical elastic one.

- In the elastic-plastic model, in sections where part of the section has yielded but another part has not, the model yields much higher horizontal stresses than those calculated under the assumption of complete section in elastic regime.
